KNOWPEC, Knowledge for pesticides control, aims to create a transnational research network between Europe and Latin America focused on the challenge of unwanted pesticides in the environment. KNOWPEC is funded by the EU’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (H2020-MSCA-RISE-2015).

The research objectives of the project are focused on three main disciplines:

  • First, we want to make a reliable diagnosis of the problem in selected areas by identifying the occurrence and fate of banned and toxic pesticides in potable and natural waters.
  • Second, we want to assess the impacts on aquatic ecosystems and to forecast toxic risks of detected levels of pollution through cumulative risk assessments
  • Third, we want to promote the sharing of knowledge on suitable treatment technologies to reduce pesticide pollution and to remove pesticides from water.
